the story

The Ski Jumping Stadium was built for the 1991 World Championships in Predazzo. This location was chosen because there were already 2 school ski jumping hills. The ski jumping hills were then covered with the specific plastic material and ceramic inrun tracks to allow the summer use as well.

The ski jumping Stadium in Predazzo was completed in ocassion of the 2003 World Championships, such as the upgrading of the Ski Jumping hills. The snow-making system has been upgraded, together with the lighting system, in order to held the ski jumping competitions also at night.

As the 2013 World Championships were allocated to Val di Fiemme for the third time, the ski jumping stadium was involved in new works in order to upgrade and modernize the facilities. Firstly, the construction of the new building, which includes: team captains' meeting room, race office, FIS office, Organizing Committee offices, Marcialonga headquarters, 6 TV commentators' cabins, equipped press room, photographers' room, VIP room for meetings, conferences, dinners. A underground garage was then built for snow groomers, snowmaking and other equipment, as well as a large hemispheric grandstand. Additionally, significant enhancements were made to the ski jumping boards to provide better visibility; the connection of the facilities were fixed to improve access to services. Maintenance work was done in the judges' tower, as it was built in 1991 and was, therefore, outdated. The whole green area was also fixed up, the snowmaking system upgraded and the new middle school ski jumping hill created to allow training for the youth teams.

After the natural enthusiasm and satisfaction for the nomination, the Administration of Predazzo immediately moved to budget a fair amount of money for possible renovation projects for the "G. Dal Ben" Ski-Jumping Hills, knowing well the condition of the 30-year-old facilities.

Work has started with the demolition of the two Ski-Jumping hills and the judges tower, also with the improvement of the access road to the upper part of the facilities. The renovation of these facilities is necessary not only because they have deteriorated after 30 years, but also because of the new sports rules, especially to protect the safety of athletes. The judges tower, on the other hand, needs specifically to be moved down as it was built in a non-optimal position already in 1990.

All the demolitions will be completed by spring 2023. It is important to underline that all material in good condition, even if dated, has been sold or given to other locations.

In 2022, work began on the demolition of the two hills and the judges' tower and the improvement of the access road to the facilities.

The renovation works includes:

  • The construction of the two ski jumping hills: existing ones will be adapted to the new standards and technologies, in order to become a leading facility not only in Europe, but also worldwide.

  • The ski elevator will be modernized and an inclined elevator will be installed, which will be convenient and efficient for the athletes.

  • The judges tower will be slightly moved and enlarged to meet new requirements imposed by FIS to provide a better view for judges and race management.

The "heated room" will be a significant improvement at the jumping center. Such area will allow athletes to warm up and prepare for jumping in a quiet and warm space, without being outside.

The new ski-jump inrun, whose tracks will be in ice, will improve the quality of athletes' training in the fall season, improving their performance during winter competitions.

An additional plus point will be the digitization of the ski jumping hills for the analysis of jumping dynamics in collaboration with CERISM of Rovereto and the University of Trento, an almost unique opportunity all over the world. The realization of the new Jumping Center, with the implementation of the technological part, would provide the possibility to become the most used training centers by international teams, as well as the Italian one.
