FIS NORDIC WORLD SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS
FIEMME 2003
FIS NORDIC WORLD SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS

Following the wave of enthusiasm for the excellent success of Nordic World Ski Championships 1991 and thanks to he high qualified sport structures built for that great event, in 1998 in Prague, Val di Fiemme gained the organisation of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2003. The sun, the snow and the good quality of the ski tracks made Fiemme 2003 an unforgettable World Championship and which made Val di Fiemme known as a prominent tourist resort.

In 2002 the Organising Committee obtained, for the first time in the history of sport events, the certification UNI EN ISO 14001 for the management of the environment, underlining the importance of the development of our excellent natural property, in order to become, both for inhabitants and tourists, a superb place where to live.

The World Championships Fiemme 2003 gave the opportunity to be at the centre of the attention of the entire world, thanks to an effective communication strategy concerning our tourist offer, unlike 1991 when this aspect was not as successful.

The co-ordination of all the institutions and realities involved by the event, i.e. the Trentino Tourist Board, the Fiemme Tourist Board, the Ski Lifts associations, Fiemme Reservation and the organising committee favoured the realisation of a "Fiemme product" and to promote and sell it on the markets of the whole Europe. The results is certainly positive. Tourism is a fundamental source of income for Val di Fiemme and the world championships were a promotional opportunity that could not be missed.

During the event, accredited broadcasting companies were supplied with tourist images on Beta support, which could be used to realise spectacular " presentation postcards" with updated and appealing images. Very positive remarks were made by important magazine and broadcasting companies and this certainly helped creating a collaborative spirit during the event that favoured a correct communication.
