Unexpected victories such as the one of the German Tilman Hartlieb and the Swedish Mira Göransson among juniors or the Spanish Imanol Rojo among seniors. However, there is also the confirmation that everyone attended, the one of the Swedish Linn Sömskar, almost always unbeatable, except for the FT Sprint of Friday.
The twins Kaidy and Keidy Kaasiku (EST) make today’s history. They placed 2nd and 3rd and fulfilled a dream, winning a World Championship medal that repays the entire Baltic team for their enormous efforts.
In the men’s senior race, the Norwegians Andreas Bergsland and Kasper Herland were on the podium, leading a perfect team race, taking off mid-race with Rojo and earning a later unsurmountable margin for the pursuers. Victory for Rojo in the end.
Mira Göransson made her climbing skills count and won the junior gold ahead of her teammate Johanna Holmberg, with Emilie Ruud Lia (NOR) placing 3rd. Touching sketch at the end of the race between the overpowering Linn Sömskar and Jackline Lockner, with the latter hanging up her roller-skies right at the top of the Alpe Cermis, arriving in a distinctive outfit. As per tradition, there was no shortage of champagne to celebrate her, complete with tears from both teammates.
Val di Fiemme once again assigned the Overall World Cup, to Italians juniores Anna Maria Ghiddi and Stefano Epis first, then to the Swedish Sömskar and the Latvian Raimo Vigants among seniors. Sprint Cups went to Ghiddi (ITA), Epis (ITA), Sömskar (SWE) and Becchis (ITA) again. Italy brings home all the Nation Cups: men, women and overall.
Appointment in early January, when the world's best cross-country skiers will compete on the epic climb: the Tour de Ski crown is up for grabs.
