NORDIC VAL DI FIEMME AND OLYMPICS A FURTHER STEP FORWARD
Signed in Cortina the agreement between Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation and Val di Fiemme

The four EDE of Val di Fiemme, Anterselva, Cortina and Bormio united with one goal De Godenz: growing and gaining new experiences is in our committee DNA Works already started long ago, next season’s Pre-Olympic Cup competitions

February 2026 is already behind the corner. In Val di Fiemme after organizing three Nordic Skiing World Championships, two Skiroll ones, 400 World Cup races and a multitude of other events, the Nordic Ski Val di Fiemme Committee is already projected in an Olympics term.

The 18th Tour de Ski that ended with the Final Climb of Alpe Cermis put an end to the organizing activity of the committee for this winter season, while Val di Fiemme is already working to organise September’s Skiroll World Championships.

On Saturday in Cortina d'Ampezzo the agreement was signed to sanction the close cooperation between the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation and the four EDEs (Event Delivery Entities), realities that operate in the sport events world in the territories involved in the next Olympics and Paralympics Winter Games 2026: The Biathlon World Cup Committee Antholz Anterselva, the Nordic Ski Val di Fiemme Committee, the Bormio Foundation and the Cortina Foundation.

Val di Fiemme, in the context of Milano Cortina 2026, will host the Nordic skiing Olympic races at the Jumping stadium of Predazzo and the Cross-Country Centre of Lago di Tesero, and the Paralympic races of cross-country skiing and biathlon in Lago di Tesero.

The agreement announce was formalized in the presence of the chief executive of Milano Cortina 2026, Andrea Varnier, and of the presidents of the four EDE: Pietro De Godenz, Lorenz Leitgeb, Matteo Bonfà and Stefano Longo.

With these local excellences, as the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation underlines, on one hand, they will share with the Games Organizing Committee their experience and on the other hand, thanks to the Games, they will be able to improve their competences in the sport manifestations context. The EDE will provide in the different race locations valuable operative support, which, together with the experience technical-organisational of the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation, will simplify the achievement of the most ambitious goal: leave to Italy a concrete heritage for the future.

“The signing of the four agreements represents a significant and further step in the realization of the Milano Cortina Games 2026”, commented the Chief Executive of Milano Cortina 2026 Andrea Varnier. “Our country can count on venues with excellent organization competences and with a deep knowledge of the big sport events world. The Organizing Committee could not ignore such an important pool of experience”.

To represent the Nordic Ski Val di Fiemme Committee there was the president Pietro De Godenz. “Growing and gaining new experiences is in our committee DNA”, said De Godenz. “After the success of world-class events and World Cup, it is significant for us to reach the Olympic and Paralympic appointment, a dream comes true. For our valley and for Trentino it is an honour hosting also the cross-country and biathlon Paralympic Games. For the committee and our 1500 seasoned volunteers it is an important mission to work in the Olympic and Paralympic context, building an irreplaceable future and synergies with the insurance that the facilities, as after the 1991, 2003 and 2013 World Championships, will be used in time: our goals are still many.

It is unquestionable that the facilities of Fiemme have been used since forever to train young Italian athletes and even foreigners, but especially thanks to their strategic geographical position, to the appreciated accommodation facilities of a valley dedicated to sport and tourism, are the theatre of stages and collegial trainings of the most important national teams of the Nordic disciplines. The work has already been underway for some time in both stadiums, and it is no news that in the coming winter season in Val di Fiemme ski jumping, Nordic combined and cross-country skiing competitions will be offered in the context of the World Cup and in the context of the Paralympics, para-Nordic and para-biathlon World Cup competitions will also be held. The reliability and competence of the companies involved in the construction and modernizing works, mostly local, together with the Organizing Committee experience supported by the large and experienced staff of volunteers, make us look forward to a full compliance with the timetable, but above all to the fact that, as in the past, all Olympic facilities in Val di Fiemme will have a great future in sport.

The great symbiosis between Milano Cortina 2026 foundation and EDE of Fiemme is the fruit of the union of people with a wide range of experience, and it is undeniable that the great sporting and media attention that Val di Fiemme attracts in the Nordic skiing field will add to the successes already archived since the late 1980s.

There will be 60 competitions in Val di Fiemme in 2026, which will award 32% of all medals in Milano Cortina 2026.

Also noteworthy is the fact that, from 2026, there will be three locations in the world hosting Olympics, World Championships and World Cups, namely Oslo, Sapporo and Val di Fiemme.
