100 days to go before the Tour de Ski in Val di Fiemme: Autumn has just begun but winter sports enthusiasts are already thinking about the cold season. Which will soon bring with it the excitement of the white circus. The best athletes in the cross-country skiing scene are ready to gather up once again, the 19th time in 19 seasons to be precise, in Val di Fiemme for the grand finale of the most prestigious World Cup stages of the winter circus from January 3rd to 5th.
The 2024/2025 winter season will be an exceptional Tour de Ski that will take place entirely in Italy, with the opening at the turn of the New Year in Toblach (December, 28th-29th-31st and January 1st) and the unmissable grand finale in Val di Fiemme from January 3rd to 5th. After the start in South Tyrol, the most watched cross-country skiing event in the world will move to Trentino, and making its welcome return among the trails of the renovated track of the Lago di Tesero Cross-Country Stadium will be the Sprint in classic technique, which will animate the day of Friday, January 3rd. On Saturday 4th, the cross-country skiers will compete in the thrilling 20 km Skiathlon race (CT and FT) that, after its debut in Val di Fiemme at the 2013 World Championship, is preparing to be decisive in the dynamics of this Tour de Ski as the great novelty of the event. Finally yet importantly, on Sunday 5th there will be the legendary “Cermis Final Climb” with the iconic race in free technique on the Alpe Cermis ramps, which will decide even for the 19th edition of the Tour de Ski winners and losers. The famous “Olimpia III”, regularly used and known as an alpine ski slope, will become the theatre of the athletes’ heroic feats who will face it uphill with skis tightly attached to their feet amidst vertiginous tears approaching 30% gradient. In addition to the great sports show put on by the most prodigious athletes on the scene, there will be the Coop Mini World Cup, the Rampa con i Campioni, the Tour del Gusto and the unmissable Apres-ski for all-round entertainment of fans, supporters, guests and locals.
Three days of great sport in Val di Fiemme, with the final races of the Tour de Ski that will serve as Olympic pre-races, a term used to define the challenges of international calibre taking place in the future facilities that will host the Olympic Games. This is the case of the Lago di Tesero Cross-Country Stadium, which given the Milano Cortina 2026 event, is undergoing modernisation and adaptation with works affecting the slopes and tracks, the snowmaking and lighting system and the water supply. At the Tour de Ski in Val di Fiemme, the athletes will not only test the redesigned tracks of the slopes, but they will also move inside the new athletes' area equipped with changing rooms and technical rooms, which will be inaugurated right on the prestigious Tour stage.
Taking care of the preparation of the grand finale of the Tour de Ski for the upcoming winter season is the organising committee Nordic Ski Val di Fiemme, which, under the leadership of President Pietro De Godenz and with a large and tireless group of volunteers, continues its journey towards one of the most eagerly awaited weekends in the international cross-country skiing and undoubtedly the most watched on TV. Without forgetting that Val di Fiemme is also engaged in another journey, that towards the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games Milano Cortina, which will make it the only location in the world to host all the major international sporting events (World Cup, World Championships, Olympics and Paralympics) in the three disciplines of Nordic skiing: cross-country skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combined.
