Val di Fiemme and Tour the Ski are by now a well-established couple, a perfect pairing within the panorama of the white circus and cross-country skiing that counts, and now, for the 19th time in 19 years the renowned locality in Trentino is preparing to be the symbolic stage of the equally acclaimed winter show.
The 2024/2025 Tour de Ski will start in Toblach with four intense days of competitions at the turn of the new year: first the Sprint in free technique on Saturday 28th December, which will precede the 15 km Mass Start in classic technique on Sunday 29th. The last race of the calendar year will be the 20 km Interval in skating, while the 15 km pursuit race in classic technique will welcome the 2025.
And after the great opening in Toblach, the caravan of the world strongest cross-country skiers will move to Trentino for the last and crucial three stages. In Val di Fiemme, skiing will take place over the weekend from 3rd to 5th January: first of all, the welcome return of the Sprint race, which, in classic technique, could shake up positions in the rankings in no small measure. This will be followed by the 20 km Skiathlon of Saturday 4th January, ideal test bench for the new slopes that a year later will host the events of the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Games.
And what Tour de Ski wold be without Final Climb? The legendary ascent to Alpe Cermis is an authentic symbol of the white circus and its presence will not be questioned even in the 2024/2025 season. The 10 km in free technique of Sunday 5th January will establish the winners and losers of Tour de Ski and it will be the Olimpia III slope on Cermis and its ramps that reach almost 30% gradient that will decide the new masters of the Tour, as well as providing an unparalleled sporting spectacle for experts and fans alike.
The most awaited and prestigious event of the entire worldwide cross-country skiing season is in the pipeline and Pietro De Godenz, president of the Organising committee Nordic Ski Val di Fiemme, can only be enthusiastic about it: “Val di Fiemme remains the only location to have hosted all the Tour de Ski editions, but above all it has always proposed the final of the great World Cup challenge. These will be three important days, framed in the pre-Olympic races, a remarkable test for our staff and our irreplaceable volunteers”. Not to mention that the next season will be quite busy for De Godenz's staff, as the president himself reminds us: “in January we will also be busy with the Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping World Cup races, while in February we will host the Para Nordic World Cup races, in view of the Paralympics in cross-country skiing and biathlon”. Finally yet importantly, De Godenz emphasises that: “relations with the FIS are always excellent and this allows us to bring major events to Trentino, especially in the television field, with a strong media return for both Val di Fiemme and the whole of Trentino. Without forgetting the fundamental support of the public administrations, first and foremost the Province of Trento, APT and the municipalities of Val di Fiemme”.
The new winter season of the world cross-country elite promises to be nothing short of spectacular and Val di Fiemme will be ready.
